Therapy Approach

I aim to create a compassionate and warmly curious space for you to heal from difficult experiences and past shame. I recognise each individual is unique, and tailor my approach to conceptualise what fundamentally is, a human experience. ​I value your own understanding of your experiences and identity and enjoy working with neuro-divergence and people who identify as LGBTQI+.

Informed by psychodynamic psychotherapy, attachment, parts work, and an in depth understanding of trauma (it's all relative!), I work with evidence-based theories and therapies. I have experience practicing within a wide range of modalities including psychodynamic psychotherapy, DBT, CBT, EMDR, and ACT. 

EMDR

Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing. EMDR is an evidence-based therapy for treating PTSD and trauma related difficulties. 

ACT

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, is a favourite of mine. Basically, the ACT philosophy is finding a balance of accepting what we can't change, and changing what we can, to live a values-led life.

Attachment

Early attachment to our caregivers are the blueprints for how we relate to others, as well as ourselves. Understanding relationship patterns and their function can help us make lasting change.

What to expect at your first appointment

The first appointment is an opportunity to meet each other and see if we are the right fit. In the first session we will focus on developing a shared understanding of your difficulties. I aim to keep the therapy process as collaborative as possible, and as such, will allow you to tell your story and to explain your own difficulties from your perspective. Your understanding of the issue is important and will help to guide our direction in therapy. I will ask you more questions to start with so I can get a picture of what you might need from me, the nature of your difficulties and what you hope to get out of therapy. Often by the end of the first session we have a good sense of key areas you want to work on, and have a plan of action moving forward.  Feel free to ask me any questions as well, and we can figure out together the best action to move forward.
